ABSTRACT
The fourth industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0, is fostering the employment of innovative sensing technologies in many scenarios ranging from occupational to medical and agricultural settings. These systems can be implemented using various principles. The focus of this Special Session will be on optical sensing elements with characteristics that fit well with the requirements that arise from this new industrial paradigm. Optical sensors provide well-known advantages compared to other sensing technologies such as high sensitivity, electrical and chemical passivity, immunity from electromagnetic interference, and wide dynamic range that make them very attractive. In some implementations, optical sensors are also extremely lightweight and small size devices, being easily embedded in different materials and structures.
This Special Session aims to address the key aspects, roles, and applications of optical sensors in Industry 4.0 by gathering researchers and practitioners, working in this field, to introduce and discuss their latest scientific results with a main focus on the following topics.
MAIN TOPICS
- Optical sensors and biosensors for Industry 4.0, IoT and Healthcare 4.0 Applications
- Fiber Optics-based Systems for Industry 4.0, IoT and Healthcare 4.0 Applications
- Vision Systems and Image Sensors for Applications in Industry 4.0, IoT and Healthcare 4.0
- Metrological assessment of Optical Sensors
- Ambient light sensors for applications in Industry 4.0
- Contactless Optics-based Solutions for monitoring physical and chemical parameters in Industry 4.0
- Embedding techniques for optic sensors
- Contact-based Optical Sensing Solutions for monitoring physical and chemical parameters
- Unobtrusive monitoring techniques based on optical sensors for Industry 4.0, IoT and Healthcare 4.0
- Monitoring techniques based on Optical Sensors in Agriculture and Food Industry
