ABSTRACT
In LTE radio access network all radio resource management (RRM) functions are carried out. The RRM functionalities deal with a range of algorithms employed to perform actions such as packet scheduling, admission control, cell selection/reselection, handover procedure and load control. The goal for RRM is the optimal utilization of radio resources and a seamless perception of the above functionalities from a user prospective.
RRM decisions are based on four basic measurements which in LTE system are: Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), Reference signal received power (RSRP), Reference signal received quality (RSRQ), and Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI).
“LTE Measurements and Optimization” special session is dedicated to comparison of common and emerging methodologies for measurements of LTE parameters and protocols for network optimization through a dual modeling and experimental approach involving both passive network monitoring, real test bed measurements and software simulations.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
Nicola Pasquino (AM '99, M '02, SM '13), graduated in 1998 and received the Ph.D. in 2002 from the University of Naples Federico II, Naples Italy where he is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronic Measurements at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (DIETI).
His main research topics are in the field of Electromagnetic Fields Measurements, with specific focus on human exposure generated by mobile systems, and Electromagnetic Compatibility Measurements in the high frequency band. He is the Lead Scientist of the Electromagnetic Compatibility lab at DIETI and a member of TC106 'Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields' of CEI (Italian Electrotechnical Committee).
Stefano Avallone received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Napoli "Federico II" in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Napoli. He was a visiting researcher at the Delft University of Technology (2003-04) and at the Georgia Institute of Technology (2005). He is on the editorial board of Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks and the technical committee of Elsevier Computer Communications. He also serves as technical program co-chair of the 12th IEEE International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications (WiMob 2016). His research interests include wireless mesh networks, 4G/5G networks and the bufferbloat problem.
Stefania Zinno earned her Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering in 2014 from the University of Naples Federico II, Naples Italy where she currently is a pHD student in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).
She also holds a Master, SIRIO-FORM Servizi per l'Infrastruttura di Rete wIreless Oltre il 3g, from CNIT and MIUR.
Research fields of interest are related to LTE-Advanced, physical and MAC layer. This represents a wide issue, which spans from the scheduling and AMC procedure, Handover and load balancing and also Carrier Aggregation both in Unlicensed and Licensed Bandwidth.
Recent research activity has been mostly focused on the study of Innovative way of assessing physical layer parameters of LTE Networks in order to determine proper optimisation algorithms with a view to greater effectiveness and efficient network management.
